I have a cheap Acer Aspire 5532 laptop. Since I got it three months ago, I have used a wireless optical mouse with it. Yesterday, the mouse stopped working. I changed the battery, reset it, changed the usb port that receiver was in, cleaned the registry, ran the anti-viral scan, rebooted it, and moved the laptop to a new location. None of that worked. I took the mouse and receiver to another laptop and they worked fine. I tried another mouse and receiver (different brand) on the affected laptop, and that mouse would not work either. I finally tried "system restore," but all that did was screw up my security software. I tried another anti-viral software, but it did not find anything wrong either. The mouse pad that is integrated into the laptop works fine. Earlier in the day, the anti-virus software popped up several messages that it had stopped several viruses that were trying to gain access to the computer. I have Windows 7, 64 bit. I tried looking in "devices" to see if the device was being recognized, but the documentation said that a plug-in device is recognized automatically and would not appear in the device list. Any ideas about what is wrong and how to fix it?
Please help.
