The start line of Sundays 43rd Berlin Marathon will be charged with seven men that have clocked personal bests under 2 hours and 6 minutes. That theyll be on a course where the marathon world record has been reset six times since 2003 adds to the anticipation of who will break the tape first at one of the worlds most prestigious races.Wilson Kipsang, who set a world record of 2:03.23 when he won the Berlin Marathon in 2013, is among the contenders, which also includes Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai, the fastest man on the start list.Prior to arriving in Berlin, Germany on Thursday from his native hometown of Iten, Kenya, Kipsang declared his intent to not just to win, but also break the world record of 2:02:57 set by Dennis Kimetto in Berlin in 2014.If I can improve my personal best by 30 seconds, thats a world record, said Kipsang, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist and winner of the 2014 London and New York City Marathons.Ahead of the 16th marathon of his career, the 34-year-old talked about race strategy, rivals and the possibility of that new record.Question from Sarah Gearhart: There are seven men in the field, yourself included, that have run sub 2 hours and 6 minutes. At what point in the race does it become another race?Answer from Kipsang: It starts from 30 kilometers, when the pacemakers are out. If youre running a world record, its good to run with a group because if youre running alone sometimes its so tiresome. But when the pace makers are out, you still have three or four guys that can push you.Q: Do you have a separate strategy for the last 10K?A: When the pace makers are out, you find that somebody tries to speed up. I always make sure that I keep close contact to anyone who tries to speed up. But if the pace is OK, I just try to hold it.Q: Have you modified your training based on this course, given that the Berlin Marathon is known for being flat and fast?A: Ive been training so much in flat areas and trying to run fast. Because you find that this race is more flat, you have to be in a position to know how to run on a flat course. This course has less corners, its more flat, and thats how I had to prepare myself.Q: Which part of the Berlin course is more challenging for you?A: Its more challenging between 25 [kilometers] to 30 because its not so flat. Its a slight uphill.Q: In your preparation for the Berlin Marathon, how important is to be aware of the way your rivals are training?A: I dont really focus so much on other guys. Its good to trust in your preparation and in your training. Thats why when we meet in competition you find that the one who really prepared himself so much is going to win. But I always trust my preparation. I think Im good to go.Q: Who are you most looking forward to running against?A: Emmanuel Mutai, [Evans] Chebet, and all those other guys are very strong. I dont want to really focus on one guy. I just want to focus on the whole group, and when the pace makers are out, I try to see the guys who are ready, who are still in the group and want to make sure to keep the pace. I know when we run, very few guys can keep that pace. Very few. Deshaun Watson Womens Jersey .
