NEW YORK -- New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes are not going to play in the All-Star Game in San Diego because of injuries.NL manager Terry Collins of the Mets made the announcement before Saturday nights home game against Washington. There was no definitive word on how long Syndergaard and Cespedes would be out, but Collins indicated that neither injury was major. Both players were injured in Friday nights 3-1 loss to the Nationals. They are going to go to Tuesdays game, but not playSyndergaard (9-4) experienced arm fatigue in the fifth inning and was lifted almost immediately. They are talking about fatigue more than anything, Collins said of the report he got from the teams doctors. There was no discomfort. There is absolutely no tightness. There was no stiffness. There was no pain. There was no twinge.Collins became concerned after Syndergaard threw two fastballs that were in the 91-mph range, about 7 mph slower than he threw earlier in the inning. At first, he wondered whether they were bad sliders, but he knew they were not when catcher Rene Rivera went to the mound.Collins credited Syndergaard with shutting down himself instead of trying to get out of the inning.Well give him two to three days to let the arm relax and then we have to get him throwing again, Collins said.Syndergaard will probably play catch at the All-Star game. He will throw in the side when the Mets return from the break in Philadelphia.Cespedes, who is hitting .302 with 21 home runs, strained his right quadriceps Friday night while making a sliding catch in center field. He left the game after three innings.Collins did not expect Cespedes to be available Saturday although he might be able to hit on Sunday in the series finale. Were going to try to nurse this and see what happens in the next three or four days, Collins said.Custom College Jerseys . -- Tony Stewart is 20 pounds lighter and has a titanium rod in his surgically repaired right leg.
