EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Taysom Hill guided Brigham Young through the third quarter, and Jamaal Williams took over in the fourth.Williams ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns, and BYU beat Michigan State 31-14 on Saturday, sending the Spartans to their third straight loss. Hill ran for a touchdown and threw for another in the second half.Im definitely not surprised and I dont think anybody on our team is surprised, Hill said. We knew we were very capable of playing the way that we did and being a good football team. But now that we did that, we knew that we were capable of it and its given us a lot of confidence moving forward and well continue to build off of it.The Cougars (3-3) largely shut down the Spartans (2-3) after Michigan State scored a touchdown on its first drive. BYU trailed 7-3 at halftime but scored touchdowns on all four of its second-half possessions -- not including its final drive, which consisted only of kneel-downs.Hills 4-yard touchdown pass to Colby Pearson put the Cougars ahead, and he then added a 12-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter.Michigan State has lost three in a row for the first time since early in the 2009 season. The Spartans pulled starting quarterback Tyler OConnor in the fourth quarter and replaced him with Damion Terry. Michigan State began to move the ball on Terrys first drive, but an interception by Michael Davis ended that possession.Spartans coach Mark Dantonio said he didnt blame OConnor for the loss, but he did not commit to any quarterback as the starter going forward. If youre not productive and youve got seven points on the board, then youve got to make a change for the sake of change, Dantonio said. I dont think he was playing that badly.Williams, who rushed for 286 yards in a win over Toledo the previous week, added an 8-yard touchdown run to make it 24-7. After Terry scored on a 1-yard sneak, Williams broke free for a 62-yard run on BYUs ensuing drive. His 1-yard TD run made it 31-14.BYU had 78 offensive plays to Michigan States 53.TAKEAWAYSBYU: For the first time all season, the Cougars played in a blowout -- and they were on the right side of it. They also have two-point wins over Arizona and Toledo, as well as three-point losses to UCLA and West Virginia and a one-point loss to Utah.Having all those close games earlier paid off this week, coach Kalani Sitake said. Having our guys keep fighting and keep believing in what we are doingMICHIGAN STATE: Things have gone from bad to worse for the Spartans, who were already in trouble after losing to Wisconsin and Indiana. With games against Michigan and Ohio State still to come, Michigan State needs to snap out of this slump or it cant even be assured of going to a bowl.As I told our football team after the game, I believe this program has been built on a good, solid foundation. Its taken nine years to do that, Dantonio said. The ride up the mountains very difficult at times, and that ride down sometimes is very quick.BOGGED DOWNMichigan State drove 72 yards in 15 plays on its first possession, taking a 7-0 lead on an 8-yard touchdown run by Gerald Holmes. The Spartans managed only 31 yards total on their next five drives before OConnor was pulled. Its 10 guys doing things right, not 11, OConnor said. And its someone different every time, I think, and its just overall chemistry.KEEPING IT GOINGPart of the reason BYU had such a big advantage in total plays was because the Cougars went 10 of 16 on third down. BYU was 6 of 7 in the second half.UP NEXTBYU: The Cougars return home to face Mississippi State on Friday night.MICHIGAN STATE: The reeling Spartans resume Big Ten play with their Homecoming game against Northwestern on Saturday.---Follow Noah Trister at www.Twitter.com/noahtristerBill Buckner Jersey . The sport moved a step closer to returning to South Florida on Wednesday, when Beckham confirmed he has exercised his option to purchase a Major League Soccer expansion franchise in Miami.Another unpredictable week for fantasy football, as players who many owners had given up on -- like Jay Ajayi and Golden Tate -- turned in big performances, and matchups that were supposed to yield big results -- Allen Robinson, T.Y. Hilton -- fizzled. For fantasy footballers, that leaves one burning question with just seven weeks left in most leagues regular seasons: what do we do now?---JAY AJAYI HAS PROBABLY RUINED THE NEXT FEW WEEKS FOR ARIAN FOSTER OWNERSThrough his first four games played this season, Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi had 161 total yards. In four quarters on Sunday, Ajayi -- started in just nine percent of CBSSports.com leagues -- gained 207 total yards, with 204 of them coming on the ground. This muddles the role of Arian Foster, the presumed starter who returned from injury Sunday and played just 11 snaps to Ajayis 48. While Foster was playing well before his injury, Ajayi was tremendous on Sunday, and should alter Miamis best laid plans going forward. Can anyone -- outside of Bill Belichick -- shrink the role of a player who nearly broke the teams single-game rushing record (228, held by Ricky Williams) the following week? Its tough to imagine Foster having a noteworthy role until Ajayi proves to be ineffective -- which is not guaranteed to occur.Expect Ajayi (30 percent owned in Yahoo!, 42.4 percent in ESPN, 56 percent in CBSSports.com) to be this weeks most-added player.---GOLDEN TATE CAME ALIVE (BUT DID WE SEE IT COMING?)Detroits Golden Tate finally had the breakout game his fantasy owners (and millions of former fantasy owners) were waiting for all season. With eight receptions for 165 yards and a touchdown, Tate -- started in just five percent of ESPN fantasy leagues -- bested in one game the 134 receiving yards he totaled through his first five weeks. But while Ajayis game was completely unexpected, Tates was somewhat telegraphed -- Detroit was missing starting tight end Eric Ebron, pass-catching maestro Theo Riddick, and would-be starting running back Dwayne Washington. Additionally, fellow wideout Marvin Jones had previously been dealing with a foot injury. By process of elimination, that left Tate the main beneficiary in a pass-heavy offense.Still, Tates big game at least shows that the Lions are capable of involving him in the offense, and this game could be the springboard from which Tate salvagges his season.dddddddddddd.---MISCELLANY- Aaron Rodgers (294 yards and a touchdown) is getting plenty of hes not elite analysis after Sundays loss to Dallas, but he hasnt been a fantasy disaster. Rodgers is averaging 24.4 fantasy points per game this season and his one bad game came against the leagues best defense (Minnesota), in which he still scored two touchdowns. Rodgers has relatively easy matchups against the Bears, Falcons, and Colts in his next three games. It would be wise to float a low-ball trade offer to his frustrated owner.- Marcus Mariota (284 passing yards, three touchdowns; 64 rushing yards on seven carries) took advantage of a good matchup against the Browns and now has two big games in a row. Mariota owners (or his would-be owners) should be looking for more on the horizon: he has a string of easy opponents lined up the next five weeks, and the Titans have unleashed him as part of the ground attack, with 134 yards in his last two games. For perspective, Mariotas 64 rushing yards on Sunday, in fantasy scoring, are the equivalent of either a touchdown or 150 yards passing.- Terrance West (123 total yards and two touchdowns) looks to be very much for real. Kenneth Dixon (12 total yards) may have his day, but its probably not coming any time soon.- Frank Gore has 75 yards rushing or a touchdown in all but one of his six games this season. He ran for a season-high 106 yards on Sunday and could be the most underrated player in fantasy football.- The Jaguars came off their bye and promptly featured Marqise Lee (six receptions, 61 yards) and Arrelious Benn (51 yards, the teams only receiving touchdown). Despite three games with double-digit targets, Allen Robinson has just one game with more than 55 receiving yards this season. Lee, meanwhile, has at least six targets in his last four games.- Owned in 17 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, Kenny Britt (seven receptions, 136 yards, two touchdowns), has 75 or more receiving yards in four of his last five games. His next five games feature favorable matchups.BYESThe Panthers and Cowboys are on bye in Week 7. The Giants and Rams play in London.---This column was provided to The Associated Press by the Fantasy Sports Network, http://FNTSY.com ' ' '
