After creating an account, you are ready to play Pigskin Pickem. A valid ESPN member name and password will be used as an identifier to sign in to game play, and to keep track of your entrys score and standing. If you are already a registered ESPN account holder, you do not need to go through the account creation process.Step 2 - GAME SETTINGSAfter you have signed in, you will be prompted with a Play Now for Free button. After you click on the button you will be automatically redirected to the Entry Settings page where you will be asked to name your entry and decide whether you would like email reminders.Name your entry - Use the text box to determine how your entry will be displayed in the game.Scoring system - Use the radio buttons to select whether youd like to pick Straight, Spread or Confidence scoring.Email Reminders - Use the radio buttons to select whether or not youd like to receive email reminders pertaining to game locks and game rules.Once you have completed your game settings click on the Continue button.Step 3 - MAKING YOUR SELECTIONSTo select the team you think will win, click on the [empty] checkbox next to the team name.All entries will use a ROLLING LOCK, meaning each game locks individually when it kicks off. This allows you to pick any game that hasnt yet started, even if that weeks games are already underway.You will not be able to re-assign a confidence value that was previously assigned to a game that is already underway. The game will typically have the earliest games assigned lower confidence values by default to allow late users to still compete for prizes.Selections submitted after the deadlines are considered invalid. Sponsors computer is the official time keeping device for this game.If you are playing the confidence game mode, once youve made all of your picks, you can reorder your confidence values by selecting the move button and then selecting here in the corresponding place where youd like to move that selection.For example, if you move a pick from the 9 points of confidence to 1 point of confidence, the pick that was previously 1 will move down to 2, 2 will move down to 3, etc.Step 4 - Scoring & PrizesConfidence Scoring and PrizesFor the Confidence game mode, you are challenged to assign a confidence value to each game in addition to selecting which team will win. Each game is worth 1 point.The entry that earns the most points EACH WEEK (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the straight weekly prize.The entry that earns the most points THIS SEASON (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the straight overall prize.The entry that earns the 2nd most points THIS SEASON (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the straight runner-up prize.Spread Scoring and PrizesFor the Spread game mode, you are challenged to select which team will cover the spread each week. ?If you pick a favorite, they need to win by at least the spread for you to earn a point. ?If you pick an underdog, they need to lose by no more than the spread for you to earn a point. Each game is worth 1 point.The entry that earns the most points EACH WEEK (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the spread weekly prize.The entry that earns the most points THIS SEASON (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the spread overall prize.The entry that earns the 2nd most points THIS SEASON (and wins any tiebreakers) will win the spread runner-up prize.Weekly Selection of TeamsEach Tuesday at 3 pm ET you can select who will win the games for the upcoming week. Accessible from your main entry page, each week the system will lock on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at the scheduled kickoff of each game. Entrants picks must be submitted, received and recorded by Sponsors computer by the scheduled lock-time in order to be counted. Selections submitted after the deadlines are considered invalid. Sponsors computer is the official time keeping device for this Promotion.For tiebreaker purposes only, you are asked to enter the predicted final score for each team in the Monday Night Football game. To select the team you think will win, click the box mark next to the team to make a checkbox appear. Clicking on this checkbox does not submit your pick, however, you must click the red Submit button to register your picks in the system.Accumulating PointsYou receive the amount of confidence points that you assigned to each game for which the winning team was correctly selected. You do not receive or lose points for incorrect picks. You will accumulate points from the date of your first winning pick. You may begin playing after the start of the promotion but you will not receive any points for the games you have missed. In the event that a scheduled professional football game listed does not occur as scheduled (e.g., a game is cancelled, postponed, etc.) no points will be awarded to any entrant.Entrants are allowed (but not required) to submit a predicted score for the tiebreaker game of each week as indicated as such in the selection area. This prediction is used for weekly tiebreaker purposes only. Ties will be broken in accordance with the tie-breaker procedure contained in the official rules.Your season-to-date point total is displayed on the frontpage, entry page, group pages (if youre in a group) and on the bottom of the leaderboard page (unless youre already in the Top 50!). Overall leaders will be displayed on the leaderboard each Monday morning. There are 17 weeks in the game, with up to 16 games each week.Step 5 - Creating or Joining A GroupYou have the option to group yourself with friends, co-workers, or completely random fans by joining or creating a group in the Group Directory. Within each group, your entry will be automatically ranked. Most of the groups in ESPNs Pigskin Pickem are public and can be joined at any time. If you want to play with a specific group of people you know, create a private group and make it only accessible to those whom you have given the group password. The creator of a group sets the groups name, motto, password (only if private). Groups can have an unlimited number of members and you can move your entry freely from one group to the next. All of this is easily found on the Group Directory page. There is no prize awarded for being the top entrant in your group.Groups that have a locked setting will officially lock at kickoff of the first Thursday night game (September 8th at 8:30pm ET). Certain group settings can be changed from the Update Group page, but, if you cant change the setting youd like, youll need to create a new group. There is no prize awarded for being the top entrant in your group.You can move your entry from one group to the next without losing any of your total points or your picks for a given week as long as they are using the same scoring system and the group you are joining is not locked. In other words, you can not move your entry from a spread?to a non-spread group (or vice-versa) once points have been accumulated. All of this is easily done on the main Group Directory page.
