It’s been a rough campaign for Blake Bortles. He was benched (twice) https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Barry-Church-Jersey , his team is back to its losing ways, and he very well could be out of a job quite soon. Bortles’ play on the field in 2018 left a lot to be desired — and that’s putting it lightly — but the entire Jacksonville Jaguars offense was in shambles this season. Earlier this week, we wrote about how Bortles was the 29th-highest graded — or fifth lowest among the 33 qualifying quarterbacks — in Pro Football Focus’ final quarterback ranking list from the 2018 season. Now we are writing about NFL.com’s 2018 year-end QB Index, in which Bortles was ranked even lower. “Around The NFL” Editor Greg Rosenthal slotted Bortles in at No. 31. There were 33 total quarterbacks on the list. Bortles was ranked ahead of only two rookies: Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills (32) and Josh Rosen of the Arizona Cardinals (33). Apparently it was a rough year for rookie signal-callers named Josh. Ranked just ahead of Bortles on the index was Miami’s Ryan Tannehill (30), Washington’s Alex Smith (29— and that is simply due to injury or else Smith would likely be much higher) and San Francisco’s undrafted rookie Nick Mullens (28). Here is what Rosenthal had to say about Bortles: Harsh words from Rosenthal, but unfortunately, he’s probably right about the decision to extend Bortles. Admittedly, I didn’t have an issue with the extension at the time as I thought Bortles’ play last season Brandon Linder Color Rush Jersey , and in the postseason in particular, earned him the contract. I of course knew that Bortles wasn’t the most ideal quarterback to have, but I thought he would be able to manage. I was dead wrong. By all accounts, Bortles is a hard-worker, genuine and caring guy and does a lot for the Jacksonville community. But it’s been proven at this point that the Jaguars can’t win with him at the helm. It will be sad to see Bortles go if he’s released or traded in the offseason, but I think it’s the necessary move at this point — although it isn’t certain, that does seem to be the most likely move. Time will tell. Bortles finished the 2017 season ranked at No. 24 in last season’s year-end QB Index. So, this sounds about right for The BOAT. Although Jalen Ramsey Jersey , an argument could be made that Bortles should be ranked ahead of Tannehill. What do you think? The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their top receiver for the second straight year.Marqise Lee will have season-ending knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve, coach Doug Marrone said Monday.Lee, who led the team in receptions in 2017, was carted off the field Saturday night after Atlanta Falcons cornerback Damontae Kazee delivered a helmet-first hit to his knee. Tests confirmed what everyone in the stadium expected after seeing Lee’s knee buckle: The injury was clearly severe.Marrone declined to provide specifics about Lee’s injury but said the team has no plans to pursue a free-agent replacement.More Jacksonville Jaguars newsJaguars hope newcomer RB Carlos Hyde helps Blake Bortles get back on trackJaguars will be without A.J. The team lost No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson to a knee injury in last year’s regular-season opener. Robinson signed with Chicago in free agency.Lee is nearly a lock to be back with the Jags since his $7.25 million salary in 2019 is guaranteed. The Jaguars will miss him this fall, although it’s unclear how much considering Marrone’s offensive philosophy features a smash-mouth ground attack.“It’s not something that we wanted to happen again this year https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Leonard-Fournette-Jersey ,” second-year receiver Keelan Cole said. “It’s the game of football, and things happen. But it was definitely a help last year, and knowing what to do from here is also good. It being the third game of the preseason, we get more time to figure out what we’re going to do about that.”Lee had 56 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns last season, showing enough growth to get a four-year, $34 million contract in March that included $16.5 million guaranteed.A second-round draft pick from USC in 2014, Lee has 171 catches for 2,166 yards and eight touchdowns in four seasons.Without him Keelan Cole Color Rush Jersey , Cole, second-year pro Dede Westbrook, second-round draft pick DJ Chark and veteran Donte Moncrief will be asked to take on expanded roles.“There are people in that room that I believe will step up,” Marrone said.Although the helmet-lowering hit looked dirty, several Jaguars players said it’s part of the game these days.“You can’t be mad at (Kazee),” Jaguars All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey said. “You have to be mad at the NFL. Not mad at them, but that is how the rule is. People are scared to tackle normal because I guess they don’t want to do helmet-to-helmet and get flagged.”Added Cole: “It’s football. You can’t get hit high. … It’s the first (year) of it, so you can’t really say too much about it. If that rule’s been in for three years Malik Jackson Jersey , then it’s something you’ve got to be like, ‘Maybe you did that on purpose.’ But it’s just football. There’s really nothing you can do about that. You’ve got to hit them somewhere.”
